The Center Offers Cross-Cultural Training to EEOC
Date: 6/10/2010

Accompanying the growth of new immigrants in Indiana, a need of intercultural understanding also rises. One of the organizations that has realized such need was the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)-Indianapolis District Office, an independent federal agency that deals with workplace discrimination.

"We have persons filing charges from various cultural or national backgrounds," said Larry Sanner, supervisor of EEOC's Indianapolis District Office. "To better assist these persons, the expansion of our world view is most helpful."

Thus, from January to May, the International Center of Indianapolis' Global Competency Program has provided five cultural training sessions to EEOC through the Center's Global Competency Training program.

The training took place once a month, covering American, Latino, African, Asian and Middle Eastern cultures, respectively. During each session, attendees learned the different points of view each culture has on communication, time, competitiveness and so forth.

At the end of all five sessions, attendees expressed their satisfaction with the information and knowledge they gained from the program.
