On May 20, as part of the preparation for Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman's June 1-10 agricultural trade mission to China, the Office of Protocol at the International Center of Indianapolis Sponsored by Duke Energy provided a pre-departure Chinese protocol and etiquette training for Skillman as well as 26 business and government delegates who will travel with her.

"It was an interactive training session," said Protocol Officer Peter Kirkwood. "Hopefully, by participating in our training, the delegation has received tools, skills, information and knowledge to develop relationships that will enhance Indiana's connection with its sister province in China."

During the training, the Office of Protocol covered different aspects of Chinese protocol and etiquette, including the country's cultural background, intercultural business communication, tips for working across cultures and so forth. Additionally, the Office also provided each delegate a China Briefing Book, which could serve as a cultural reference guide for the group.
